All Saints' Braishfield

Welcome to our Eco Church page!

Eco Church is a scheme run by A Rocha UK equipping churches to care for God's creation through their worship, buildings, land, community engagement, and individual lifestyles.

By completing an online survey, churches can be considered for an Eco Church Award at either Bronze, Silver, or Gold level.

There are five areas that a church must demonstrate environmental engagement with to receive an award:

  • Worship and teaching

  • Management of church buildings

  • Management of church land

  • Community and global engagement

  • Lifestyle

In April 2024, All Saints’ was awarded a Bronze award and is currently working towards Silver.

We worship a God who loves the earth he created and calls us to care for it. While it’s important to take action together as a church, we also have an individual responsibility to take action in our daily lives so that we tread lightly on the earth, and use our voices to speak up for nature.

On this page we intend to share practical tips for how each of us as individuals can play our part in protecting God’s wonderful world.

You may be wondering where to start.  It’s worth remembering that we can all do SOMETHING to help.  Here are some ideas:

There are plenty of great resources out there which can help you to identify and reduce your carbon footprint.

Maybe you could make small changes to your energy usage around the home?

Could you help provide a kinder environment for wildlife, including birds, bees, butterflies and hedgehogs through the provision of even a tiny pond and considering the types of flowers to plant.

We are very fortunate to have locally Lemon and Jinja, whose mission is to provide education and support to significantly reduce household waste by providing refill & reuse options.  Their website is inspiring -  “It’s all about doing one bit at a time. Change one thing. Once you start making the change, you will see the ‘ripple’ effect and everything will slowly fall into place!”

Also consider using (or getting involved with) Romsey Men’s Shed who tackle DIY projects locally to repair and repurpose.
